I’ve been known to drive from the eastern
panhandle of West Virginia to Beaver, Pennsylvania just for a
massage, (two-hundred and ten miles each way!) But not just any
massage…
Ten years ago I had my first Swedish
massage and enjoyed a massage once or twice a year. Five years
ago, while visiting my family in Beaver, I made an appointment
with my sister Carol’s massage therapist, Richard Russ. He was
bright, cheerful, and very professional. As my massage
progressed he began explaining why my back hurt and why
my neck was stiff. One hour later not only was my back and neck
pain gone but I had learned techniques and stretching exercises
to help me keep my body in better alignment.
Richard Russ is a Certified Medical Massage
Therapist who works hard, (while making me laugh), to massage,
stretch the body, and to educate his patients to get us
functioning again… which is why I continue to drive four
hundred and twenty miles for a massage!

I lived with neck and shoulder pain for the last nineteen years.
I tried every available treatment that I knew of without
significant relief. When I came to Rick I had noticeable
improvement after the first visit. Rick reached the areas where
the source of the problems were.
With periodic massage and a series of stretching and
strengthening exercises I've achieved lasting relief.

Two words can
describe Richard D. Russ, a “MAGIC MAN!”
I had been suffering from migraines for about a week, and I
thought maybe a massage would help me. I was very surprised when
I sat down to talk with Rich and he explained everything he
would be doing, and actually making my posture a lot better.
See, I had broken a lot of bones and my posture was not exactly
the best.
During my first massage, Rich went over the parts of my neck
I never knew had problems. He knew exactly where the parts on my
neck hurt. He amazed me! The week after my first massage I had
zero headaches and my moods were a lot better. I felt wonderful.
I started walking more, and eating better.
Every time I go to see Rich I not only get a great massage,
he also teaches me. I learn more about the human body and ways
to treat it better every appointment. He really is a “MAGIC
MAN!”
Thank you Rich!

I had residual pain from knee surgery, along with neck, shoulder, and back pain. I could not sleep, and was in
alot of pain. I had muscle spasms so bad that I could not stand or sit for long periods of time. I noticed improvement immediately! I can now walk without limping, I have no more headaches, and I have less pain. The tingling and numbness are gone, and so are the muscle spasms.

Thank you Rick! Over the past one and one-half years we have
discovered deficiencies in my legs, knees, and arms. We have
corrected the alignment of the muscles of my limbs and reduced
the numbness. The stretches that you perform on my body allows
me greater flexibility, and has definitely helped my golf game.
It also enables me to work right along with the younger men in
my electrical company. I have noticed a great reduction of joint
pain, especially while water and snow skiing.
I have been to many massage therapists, the
attention that you give to the entire body, to keep it in
balance and working properly is so much more.
Again, I thank you for all of the help toward
improving my well being and helping with stress
control!

I've had back problems since I was in high school. I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in my twenties, and was operated on for a herniated disc in 1992. I felt that whatever I had a year after surgery was what I would learn to live with. I had given up on expecting improvements.
I noticed improvement after my first treatment. Headaches, which I thought were a part of my daily routine, disappeared. My back feels better now than it has in years!
Thanks Richard,

I have been a hairdresser for over 13 years and because of
repetitive motion was in almost constant pain with my shoulders and
neck. I
had gone to doctors who prescribed muscle relaxers and pain pills ...all
of which did not agree with my body or mind. I was
only pain free "IF" I took them! I also had
tried several different people for massage in the city of Pittsburgh...still no relief.
Finally through a local chiropractor, I was referred to Richard. Initially I went once a week ..then every other week, and
now once a month and it has made such a huge difference. I not only am pain free...YEAH...but feel more
relaxed than in decades, and it is such a natural approach!
There are people who are ok at what they do...people who are
good at what they do..., and people gifted at what they do. Richard is
truly gifted at what he does! My massage is not a treat...it is
necessary!
Thanks so much Richard,

Several years ago while
cleaning roof gutters, a tree branch broke above me and swept me
off the roof. The fall of forty feet resulted in a crushed
vertebra. The only option was to harvest bone from the pelvis
(ileum crest) and graft the pedicels above and below the damaged
vertebra with the harvested bone. To hold things in place while
the bone graft healed, an "internal cast" consisting
of two stainless steel bars, six screws and three turnbuckles
were attached to my spine. This was supposed to be a permanent
implant. See photo below.
The surgery was extensive and required moving the two large
muscles (latissimus dorsi) and others aside while the hardware
was attached to the bone.
Two years later I had managed to loosen the hardware due to an
active life style. Back to surgery to remove the hardware!
Both surgeries resulted in scar tissue forming within the muscle
group affected. This scar tissue impedes the flow of blood
through the small capillary vessels providing nourishment to one
of the largest muscle groups in the body. This results in
muscular back pain, given my active life style. You have no
doubt experienced similar symptoms if you "over did
it" working out, shoveling snow, moving furniture or just a
laborious day at work. I own and operate a 150-acre farm
in Beaver County. I am no stranger to physical activity.
Providing increased blood flow to the lower back was the key.
That's where Richard comes to the rescue.
Deep tissue massage restores the blood flow to the muscles
resulting in no back pain for a period of three weeks. The scar
tissue will never go away. Deep tissue massage on a tri-weekly
basis maintains the blood flow resulting in no lower back pain.

I started massage therapy because of my frequent headaches,
which was my main focus. Not only have my headaches decreased
tremendously, but in addition, massage therapy has improved my
general health and well being. Richard is very professional and knowledgeable
in his field!

Richard's skill and knowledge put me on the right path to
healing after a knee injury in June 2007. It makes sense to go
beyond just "rest" and anti-inflammatory treatment.
Thanks Richard.
